I’m awoken by the sound of footsteps.

A slap stings my face, and my eyes fly open.

“Get up,” Mago Re says.

The same deep throng of voices echo inside him, and I stumble bleary-eyed and fearful out of bed, wincing at the bruises on my side. As soon as I’ve found my footing, he grabs me by the wrist. My mouth is thick and dry, and I try to protest, but no sound comes out. Re pulls me out of the room and down the corridor. I have no idea where we’re going, and I’m still trying to clear the fog from my brain, when I realize we’ve stopped.

We are in the white room. The black box in the corner hums an inviting welcome.

Before I can even speak, Re yanks open the door to the Oscuro and throws me in.

In the darkness, I hear the metal scrape of the lock.
